In fact, every single person from both teams (and the coaches and even the ref, who’s called the sir) basically has to show up to the “drink up.” It’s really frowned upon not to show up for at least a bit.
You’d think a whole bunch of really crazy, huge rugby players would know how to have a good time, but actually, the things suck. I’ve seen a few, just visiting my bro at college, and they really are boring.
